Protect Yourself against Internet fraud

How does 3D Secure work?
When you as cardholder, purchase for the first time online at a participating merchant, you will be required to activate your card by supplying the information requested on the screen. Click 'continue' to proceed with the activation process.
You will be requested to create a password (4 to 8 alpha-numeric characters) for identification and authentication purposes for future online/internet purchasing only.
Click 'submit' to conclude the activation process.
You will subsequently be presented with an authentication screen, detailing your purchase particulars (site name, purchase amount and date) and you will be requested to authenticate yourself with your created personal password. Click on 'submit' to proceed with the purchase.
Without your password, the purchase can not be concluded.
After initial activation of a specific credit card, you will only be required to enter your password for future online/Internet purchases with the same card.
What is a participating merchant?
Merchants participating in the 3D Secure environment will in all instances endeavour to authenticate cardholders shopping on their site. Merchants are participating if they have deployed a software module, called a Merchant Plug-in (MPI) on their online site.
This software module routes the card payment detail to Issuing banks Access Control Server for verification and authentication prior to authorisation of the transaction. Only participating merchant sites will present the cardholder with an activation and/or authentication screen/s during online shopping. Only cardholders that have activated their cards will be authenticated.
Can I purchase at merchants that do not participate in 3D Secure?
Yes. You will however not be able to utilise 3D Secure. You will be able to complete the shopping process by following the regular "checkout" route.
